Storm damage

What you see at the left is a close-up photo of a lightning damaged internal modem.

In fact, the lightning strike came via through the connected telephone cable, and blew a hole in the main chip and destroyed the IC chip.

The rest of the computer was also a "write-off" as such electrical discharge, while mostly invisible to the naked eye, causes irrepairable damage at the micro component level.

So, what do you do when you see those onimous clouds in the sky, or wake up in the middle of the night to hear a low rumble in the distance?

Immediately disconnect the telephone cable from your computer. Power down your computer, and switch it off at the power point.
